Name
Know Thy Neighborhood: How to Support Conversations on Race through Local Histories (Online)
Date & Time
Tuesday, July 15, 2025, 1:00 PM - 1:50 PM
Description

The Smithsonian's National Conversation on Race (NCOR) program has collaborated with two organizations engaging in thoughtful discussions on the legacies of race and racism. The National Public Housing Museum adapted their "36 Questions on Civic Love" toolkit for NCOR Chicago, inviting participants to reflect on and understand their neighbors' perspectives before discussing race. Meanwhile, Asian Texans for Justice conducted a teacher seminar for NCOR San Antonio, introducing an AAPI history map (a Smithsonian APAC Co-Create project) to ground local histories in the classroom. These engaging, replicable resources remind us that transformative change begins with open dialogue and sharing our histories.
