Description
Music is a powerful tool to engage students and make historical events and cultural stories more relatable and memorable. In this session, participants will explore Smithsonian Folkways Music Pathways (SFMPs) – a new series of free arts-integrated resources that place the transformative power of music at the heart of learning experiences across K–12 subjects. Drawing from Smithsonian Folkways Recordings’ fully digitized catalog and primary sources from across the Smithsonian, SFMPs highlight music traditions important to the American story, such as Cajun and zydeco, blues, mariachi, and conjunto. These educational resources are aligned to academic standards, offering moments for listening, reflection, hands-on activities, and storytelling.
