Name
Victory Gardens: A Historical & Modern Perspective (Online)
Date & Time
Tuesday, July 15, 2025, 3:00 PM - 3:50 PM
Description

Join Smithsonian Gardens and discover how Americans come together in the garden to “ensure domestic tranquility” and “promote the general welfare” during times of upheaval. Access primary sources and activities from the Archives of American Gardens on Victory Gardens, or home vegetable gardens planted during the world wars era to ensure adequate food supply for civilians and troops. Learn how Smithsonian Gardens will explore food for the future in the Victory Garden at the National Museum of American History in a new exhibition for the nation’s 250th. Gather new ideas for how students can capture the stories of gardens in their communities or start their own victory garden-inspired projects.
