Description

How can oral histories help students understand the importance of financial literacy? In this session, presenters will explore how the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum’s oral history project, We Do Declare: Women’s Voices on Independence, can be used in the classroom to provide essential historical context on women’s financial independence. Presenters include the Smithsonian curator of We Do Declare, a Smithsonian museum educator, and a classroom teacher. They will explore incorporating the oral histories of women’s economic power into financial education courses.  Attendees will have the opportunity to practice a financial literacy activity and reflect on integrating oral histories of women’s finance into their classroom practice.
