Carlotta Walls LaNier was the youngest of the Little Rock Nine, a group of Black students who integrated Central High School in 1957 despite violent opposition. Their courage led to federal intervention by President Eisenhower, marking a turning point in civil rights history. Overcoming her turbulent past, LaNier shared her story in A Mighty Long Way, with a young readers' adaptation available.
A respected speaker, she inspires audiences to remain vigilant in the fight for equality. She graduated from the University of Northern Colorado, where she now serves on the board of trustees. LaNier has earned numerous honors, including the Congressional Gold Medal and induction into multiple halls of fame. As president of the Little Rock Nine Foundation, she continues to advocate for equal opportunity, particularly in education. Her life’s work remains a testament to resilience and progress.
