Kimberly S. Jones is the 2023-24 Burroughs Wellcome Fund North Carolina
Teacher of the Year and a passionate advocate for equity in public education. With over 19
years of experience teaching English and humanities at Chapel Hill High School, she
specializes in World Literature, AP African American Studies, and Holocaust and Human
Rights education. A graduate of Wake Forest University, Kimberly holds degrees in English
and Education. She also serves as a Regional Site Director for The Olga Lengyel Institute
for Holocaust and Human Rights Education and as an education consultant for PBS at
both state and national levels. Kimberly advises the North Carolina State Board of
Education and contributes to policy and educator development through roles on the NC
Teaching Fellows Commission and the NCCAT Development Foundation Board. Outside
the classroom, she enjoys traveling with her family, renovating her home, and diving into
true crime podcasts and great books.
