Speaker Bio
Kara Kling teaches humanities and serves as the 8th Grade dean at Maret. Students in her World History course investigate the historic purposes of monuments, analyze data to understand the U.S. monument landscape, and propose a research-based “missing monument.” Through activities like “monuments in conversation,” her students compare ancient and contemporary monuments. She also designed and leads a four-day experiential course, "ReVisiting Monuments," that takes students to numerous sites in DC and Richmond, VA. Kara earned her AB degree in history and literature from Harvard College and her M.Ed. in teaching and curriculum from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is a long-term faculty member at the WISIT Summer Institute and has presented workshops for DCPZ, NCTE, and Private Schools with Public Purpose.
