The Smithsonian is hosting the fifth annual National Education Summit July 15-17. Taking place both virtually and in-person in Washington, D.C., this free event brings together leading education experts to explore instructional strategies and resources that empower educators and their learners. This year’s summit is designed to prepare educators for the nation’s 250th anniversary. The summit’s theme, Together We Thrive: One Nation, Indivisible, will explore how pivotal moments in history continue to shape our present and future.

"Many Voices, One Nation" sessions are an exploration of the multitude of stories, experiences, and perspectives that have shaped our history and continue to define our present. It underscores the concept of "E pluribus unum" – out of many, one – highlighting how our differences contribute to the strength of our nation. These sessions support the idea of local communities sharing their stories to create a larger national narrative and participate in a national conversation.

"Power of Place" sessions dive into the profound and enduring relationship between the American people and landscapes that have shaped our nation's history, culture, and identity. From connections to natural resources, geographical features, and environmental challenges to the interconnectedness of human communities and the natural world, these sessions spotlight place as a core element of who we are as a people.

"Transformative Teaching Tools" sessions are designed to empower educators through a wide range of strategies, frameworks, and transferrable approaches to explore the 250th anniversary.
